Release Plate, Retaining Ring and Flywheel Orientation

 Pushrod Seal and Bushing

Clutch Release Bearing

Release Plate, Retaining Ring

The release plate is secured to the clutch diaphragm spring with a retaining ring. It is critical that the ring is correctly positioned and locked into the release plate. For release plates with two retaining ring lock holes, the ends of the retaining rings are pointed into the release plate holes, locking them in position.

Flywheel Orientation

This flywheel has an engine timing reference mark and it is located on the clutch cover in only one position. Locate the pin(s) in the flywheel and the corresponding notch(s) in the edge of the cover stamping. Mark the correct orientation on the outer edge of the cover stamping and flywheel for correctly positioning the flywheel for installation. Failure to correctly locate the flywheel will damage the clutch cover and the clutch will not release.

Pushrod Seal and Bushing

The input shaft pushrod oil seal and bushing should be inspected and replaced as required. Failure to replace a worn seal or bushing will create an oil leak from the transmission, contaminating the clutch.

Clutch Release Bearing

The release bearing is access by removing the stamped cover on the outside of the transaxle housing. Remove the fork retaining clip, remove the cross shaft and replace the bearing.
