Correct Release Fork Orientation
Many Dodge pickups and Jeep applications have clutch release fork that must be mounted correctly for correct clutch release system operation.
The correct orientation can be verified when the stamped number on the fork is on the pivot ball side of the transmission, opposite of the slave cylinder as shown in the pictures below. A full size Dodge pickup is on the left and a Jeep is on the right. Technician is pointing to the part number location.
Inspect the fork at the pivot ball pocket, pushrod pocket and where the fork contacts the bearing for excessive wear. Replace worn forks as required.
Cast iron bearing collars require grease in the collar grease groove and a light film on the guide tube. A daub of grease should also be applied to the release bearing collar fork ears.
