Clutch Repair on Vehicles Equipped With a Concentric Slave Cylinder (CSC)


The CSC is a self contained, hydraulic cylinder and release bearing assembly that is mounted inside the bell housing (Figure 1). 

To repair the vehicle properly, always install a new, complete CSC assembly (Figure 2) when replacing the clutch. Replacing only a clutch release bearing onto the used and worn CSC body can result in:

  • Fluid leakage from the old CSC unit (Figure 3).
  • Clutch release problems.
  • Reduced service life of the entire clutch system.

This bulletin is to assist in the safe and effective servicing of this application. Transmissions, transaxles and transfer cases are heavy and theri safe removal and replacement requires the use of proper tools, equipment and procedures to prevent injury and damage. Always read and follow instruction bulletins and factory service manuals for detailed clutch servicing procedures.
